Met Weld has is seeking to fill a
Painter/Blaster
position on the 1st shift and 2nd shift in our Altamont, NY location. The Painter/Blaster position removes oxidation, scale, paint or other undesirable surface finishes from structural steel by utilizing a media blast system. After blasting, the Painter/Blaster will mask off non-painted surfaces, apply primer, and paint per work instructions.
Compensation: $17-$25per hour., based on experience and sustained performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Preparation for blasting - Mask surfaces that do not need to be blasted.
Handle product in and out of the blast booth, via crane, fork truck and/or pallet jack
Mix paint according to specs, determine flow, viscosity, and coating quality.
Must be able to use thickness gauges, measuring instruments, and maintain paint records.
Complete blasting and/or painting in a timely manner with limited supervision.
Maintain equipment to ensure proper equipment functionality.
Monitor blast media usage and or re-order levels.
Interact with organizational team members and other departments in a professional manner.
Proper utilization of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Work within the scope of MWI's safety policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
HS Diploma / GED
2+ years' industrial paint work experience
Knowledge of blast equipment, blast media and blast profiles a plus.
Must be able to work in a team environment.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Ability to life moderate to heavy pieces.
Able to bend and twist body in various positions.
Ability to wear protective equipment while welding/fabricating. Typical protective equipment (supplied by or reimbursed by MWI) consists of; safety glasses, respirator, Tyvek coveralls, steel toed safety shoes and hearing protection (earplugs).

First shift 7:00 am - 3:30 pm (M-F) or Second shift 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm
Monday to Friday
Overtime 5 - 10%
