Job Description
These inspectors will be assigned to a shop environment performing UT inspection on structural welds. There will be some climbing and crawling required and the UT inspectors would be expected to perform some minor grinding for relevancy checks in the process of the UT inspections.
Qualifications
All inspectors shall have documented qualifications/certifications to the Level II requirements for ASNT's SNT-TC-1A, 2001 Edition, which must be turned in with the application. Additionally, Level II UT inspectors shall be previously certified to perform volumetric butt, corner, and tee weld UT inspections by NAVSEA Y9074-AS-GIB-010/271.
Inspectors shall have passed written general theory and procedure-specific examinations for UT Inspection butt, corner, and tee welds.
General, Practical, and Specific examinations will cover the equipment, operating procedures, test techniques, specifications, codes, and acceptance criteria used in the applicable NDT procedures and will test techniques that the candidate may encounter in their specific assignments such as calibration, scanning, detection and evaluation of flaws.
Inspectors must pass a visual acuity exam using Jaegar 1 letters at a distance of 12 inches.
This position is rotating shifts and up to 12 hrs each day, must be able to lift 50 lbs, climb vertical ladders, crawl in tanks and confined spaces, and not be afraid of heights.
