Steam Turbine Journeyman Mechanic

Journeymen steam turbine mechanics needed for upcoming power plant outage work at the Asenal Hill Power Plant in Shreveport, LA. Job to begin on or about 4/4/2025.

Journeyman C - $30 per hour

• Ability to disassemble, repair, assemble/align main turbines, feed-water pump turbines and associated components with limited supervision.
  Basic mechanical shop skills, bearing maintenance, associated valve maintenance, coupling and internal component alignment, mechanical seals, and basic rigging practices.
• 2+ years of experience in the field with steam and gas turbines, turbine valves and associated equipment/components
• Must be able to understand and follow all safety standards.
• Disassemble, inspect, and reassemble turbine components as defined by procedure.
• Identify parts and turbine terminology
• Disassemble I reassemble hydraulic coupling and bolted joints
• Capable of lifting journal and thrust bearings such as scraping and bluing bearings to journals with supervision.
• Use rigging procedures and equipment.
• Demonstrate knowledge of steam turbine machine trains and valve components
• Use and read precision tools such as inside and outside micrometers, dial calipers, depth micrometers, dial indicators, and etc.
• Read mechanical prints and clearance diagrams
• Capable. of performing machine train alignments as directed
• Basic understanding of turbine generators and associated components operations

Journeyman B - $32 per hour

• All Journeyman C requirements.
• 3+ years of experience in the field with steam and gas turbines, turbine valves and associated equipment/components
• Read mechanical prints and clearance diagrams
• Experience with turbine controls such as front standard governor maintenance and valve setups.
• Capable of taking internal component alignment by the use of a tight line

Journeyman A (Senior) - $34 per hour

• All Journeyman C & B requirements.
• Capable of operating a surface grinder, milling machine, versa mill, lamina drill and lathe for minor machine work
• Capable. of performing machine train alignments as directed
• Capable of lifting journal and thrust bearings such as scraping and bluing bearings to journals
• Leadership abilities
• Advanced understanding of turbine generators and associated components operations
• Align and balance turbine as directed by Technical Staff to AEP specifications.
• Troubleshoot components to identify real or potential problem areas.
