Summary

The Mechanic works independently and with other plant personnel to perform preventative, predictive and routine maintenance tasks. This role includes troubleshooting issues, repairing failures of production and facilities equipment, and ensuring maximum equipment efficiency and effectiveness. This person provides direction for effective execution of maintenance activity on all machinery and equipment throughout the plant and office facilities. The Maintenance Mechanic is also responsible for the optimum utilization of available resources such as manpower, equipment, time, etc. This person must be responsible for decisions, actions and failures; must establish clear responsibilities and processes for monitoring work and measuring results. In addition, the maintenance mechanic must partner with others to get work done and work cooperatively with others across the organization to achieve shared objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains necessary level of communication with team members and other support groups and does so in a participative management style, conducive with operational goals.
  • Maintains Company standards for safety, quality, food safety, sanitation and GMPs.
  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, overhauls and repairs equipment in the boiler and refrigeration and all other utility systems to minimize downtime.
  • Performs welding for repair and fabrication as required. Performs preventative maintenance on all boiler, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment throughout the facility.
  • Observes and tests system operation using gauges and instruments. Comfortable with control panel interface screens and HMI's, and knows how to react to alarms and items that need attention from the control system.
  • Tests lines, components, and connections for leaks. Performs boiler feed water, condensate and cooling tower water analysis and makes necessary adjustments to maintain desirable results.
  • Monitors the Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO).
  • Responsible for fryer and dryer exhaust systems, compressed air system, domestic water, hot water, air handlers, glycol systems and cleaning chemical distribution systems.
  • Maintains the DAFT (Dissolved Air Flotation for oil skimming).
Typical Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Five plus years related experience and/or training.
  • Good knowledge of computer systems and other technology.
  • MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Required Certifications

  • Must obtain CIRO certification within 1 year, and 2 years' experience or recognized boiler safety training.
  • Must obtain and maintain annual Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) certification for entry into low oxygen freezer environment, which involves wearing a tight-fitting mask.
  • Must obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Must obtain and maintain a Forklift Certification
  • May require position to obtain and maintain annual Authorized Fall Protection Certification.
Other Information

Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanics; Basic electrical repair in an industrial/manufacturing environment; Ability to read and interpret documents and drawings and write detailed repair reports; Ability to analyze and make decisions; Ability to diagram equipment control problems; Strong verbal and written English communication skills; Good organizational and planning skills.

Preferred: Experience with 480-volt power and 24 control voltages to 120 volt electrical troubleshooting; Program and trouble shoot Allen Bradley SLC500 and MicroLogix series. Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory, and represent the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Physical Requirements: Lift and move heavy equipment; Climb ladders and work in high, precarious places.

Working Environment: May be exposed to wet or humid conditions; May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions; May be exposed to high noise environments; May be exposed to chemicals used in the process; Could be in temperatures of -5 degrees.
