Job Summary
As a Shipfitter, you will utilize your knowledge of metalworking techniques, welding, and blueprint interpretation to craft, fit, and align various metal pieces, ensuring structural integrity and vessel functionality. Your role will involve working with a diverse range of materials and tools, contributing to the construction, repair, and maintenance of maritime structures. Collaborate with a team to achieve production goals while adhering to safety protocols and industry standards.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Expertly fabricate, fit, and align metal components according to detailed blueprints and specifications, ensuring the precise assembly of structural elements of marine vessels.
- Utilize various welding techniques, such as arc welding, MIG, or TIG, to fuse metal parts securely, ensuring the strength, stability, and integrity of the vessel’s structure.
- Safely handle and prepare metal materials, including cutting, shaping, and grinding, using tools such as torches, saws, and grinders, to create components that meet quality and precision standards.
- Conduct thorough inspections of fabricated components, checking for accuracy, proper alignment, and adherence to specifications, and make necessary adjustments or repairs to maintain high-quality workmanship.
- Work closely with team members, including welders, engineers, and supervisors, to ensure seamless coordination during construction, repairs, and modifications, contributing to the successful completion of maritime projects while prioritizing safety and efficiency.
Essential Skills & Experience
- 1-3 years of Shipfitting experience.
- Proficiency in shopfitting practices, including layout, fabrication, cutting, welding, and assembly of structural components and ship sections.
- Skilled in various welding processes such as arc, MIG, and TIG, and able to perform high-quality welding on different materials, including steel and aluminum.
- Required to know safety procedures, follow company policies, and adhere to regulations.
- Strong fabrication skills to cut, shape, bend, and form metal materials according to specifications.
Pay: $21.00
Per-diem: $150
2 weeks of lodging
Safety & Environmental Factors:
All employees are expected to adhere to the company’s safety policies to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. This role involves working under extreme hot or cold conditions and requires the physical ability to stand for the entire shift, use hands for various tasks, ascend stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. Team members must occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close, distant, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
