The Opportunity
Our Field Service Team works at customer facilities each day, performing various scopes of work ranging from Diagnostic Testing and Inspection to full-scale restack and rewind of hydroelectric generators. You will be part of a team, serving as a full-time Winder on a crew of two to over ten winders depending on project.

Your day-to-day may include:

  • Perform inspection, disassembly, assembly, repair, refurbishment, and maintenance of mechanical and electrical components for AC and DC equipment such as motors, generators, and hydro generator stators.
  • Remove, repair, and install stator laminations, key bars, and windings with precision and quality.
  • Conduct generator electrical diagnostic tests using established testing procedures and methods, including Megger, DLRO, Hi-Pot, EL CID, Wedge Mapper, Rotor Pole Drop, Doble, etc.
  • Remove, repair, and install rotor field poles and inspect refurbished field poles for quality assurance.
  • Operate tools and machinery, including induction heating machines, propane torches, overhead cranes, and hand/power tools.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and promote a clean and secure work environment.
  • Maintain clear and accurate records of completed work and collaborate with the team to meet project goals.
  • Travel extensively with overtime and weekend work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Our field service career paths include apprenticeships, A-winder, B-winder, and C-winder, as well as other advanced roles such as lead winders, generator specialists, and site managers. We have skilled tradesmen and administrative teams motivated to mentor you.

Reports To:  Site Manager, Project Manager 
Pay Rate:  $20.00-$42.00 per hour, Commensurate with experience
Location:  Remote, with majority of work to be completed at customer facilities
Travel:  Extensive (>75%)

Experience & Skills
Your initial pay rate will be based on your relevant experience and demonstrated capabilities.  We will train candidates who want to get their hands dirty and work as a team.  

Required:

  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Effective communication and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and find efficiencies while keeping details in check
  • Ability to mobilize to job site on short notice
  • Capable self-starter, willing to work with limited direction and provide guidance to junior team members
  • Willingness and ability to quickly learn and comply with procedures – safety & quality must be #1

Desired:

  • Minimum of 5 years working with small to large generators, electric motors, or stator/electrical component winding.
  • Experience in installation of coils, side packing and wedging, blocking and bracing, making up connections and leads, and taping
  • Demonstrated skill and proficiency in all common test equipment
  • Field service experience, including hydro generator rewinds
  • Operational proficiency of electronic data input
  • Experience brazing by torch, carbon, and induction
  • Ability to draw conclusions and provide recommendations based on testing and inspection findings


Physical / Environmental Requirements

  • Able to work in adverse conditions (indoor/outdoor) including power plants and under construction operations
  • Able to lift 25lbs. frequently and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to continuously perform basic physical movements such as: walking, standing, bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, reaching, grabbing

  • Drug Screening (pre-hire, pre-client onsite visits, reasonable suspicion, post-accident/incident)
  • DOT Certification (Valid DL required (not CDL); we will handle your certification in-house)
  • Criminal & Background Screening (criminal record will not necessarily prevent your eligibility for hire)
