Description Overview

The Machinist is responsible for the building, rebuilding, maintaining, and installation of production equipment such as baking ovens, conveyor systems, and a variety of packaging equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Machine parts to specifications, using machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, or grinders
  • Design fixtures, tooling, or experimental parts to meet special engineering needs
  • Confer with Engineering, Supervisory, or Manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information
  • Install repaired parts into equipment
  • Install new equipment
  • Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency
  • Calculate dimensions or tolerances, using instruments, such as micrometers or vernier calipers
  • Set up, adjust, or operate basic or specialized machine tools used to perform precision machining operations
  • Program computers or electronic instruments, such as numerically controlled machine tools
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, or engineering information to determine methods or sequences of operations needed to fabricate products
  • Evaluate machining procedures and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency or adaptability
  • Dismantle machines or equipment, using hand tools or power tools to examine parts for defects and replace defective parts where needed
  • Other duties assigned by supervisor
Essential Functions

  • Must be highly motivated, able to follow direction, and perform assigned work duties independently with minimal supervision
  • Position requires a strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions and specifications
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Must be able to speak, listen, and effectively communicate with team members
  • Able to read, understand, and strictly follow written procedures for multiple controlled processes
  • Must be organized and maintain work area
  • Able to operate manual machines
  • Able to problem-solve to troubleshoot machine malfunctions
  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to do shop math, perform lay-outs, and read drawings
  • Must have good mechanical aptitude and strong multitasking ability
  • This position involves regular bending, stooping, twisting, and lifting
  • Must be able to work all shifts
  • Must be able to lift up to 75#, have full use of arms and legs and climb stairs to access all areas of the plant, offices and roof
  • Adherence to the company attendance policy is required, including expectations of punctuality and limited unapproved absences
  • Some travel may be required
Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a CNC Machinist & Programmer in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficient in programming and operating CNC machines, including knowledge of G-code and other programming languages
  • Experience with a variety of CNC machines, such as lathes, and mills
  • Experience with AutoCAD, CAD-CAM, and 3D programming preferred
  • Knowledge of quality control processes and ability to inspect finished products
