Position Overview
Hutco, Inc. is seeking experienced
Pipe Welders (J4)
to join our Pipe Shop in Norfolk, Virginia. This position involves high-quality welding of various metals and pipe joints in accordance with military and industry standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with TIG and stick welding processes, as well as the ability to work on different types of pipe materials, including carbon steel, stainless steel, and copper-nickel alloys.
Job Responsibilities
Journeyperson 4 (J4) - Pipe Welder
Perform welding in accordance with Tech-Pub-278, Tech-Pub-248, MIL-STD-1689, and proper joint designs per MIL-STD-22D.
Proficient in welding all types of materials, including TIG and stick welding on plate and pipe.
Weld various piping joints such as sockets, butts, E.B rings, backing rings, and open butts.
Work with a variety of metals, including copper-nickel (CuNi), Monel, stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel/chromoly.
Set up and operate welding machines such as
SYNCHROWAVE 250
and
POWCON ST-300
.
Troubleshoot TIG lines and welding machines.
Utilize mag-base mirrors for TIG and stick welding applications.
Work with Metro PCP 912-04 for P-I piping.
Journeyperson 3 (J3) - Pipe Welder
Understand and apply proper joint designs per MIL-STD-22D.
Perform TIG and stick welding on different materials, including carbon steel, chromoly, CuNi, and stainless steel.
Weld various pipe and plate joints, including butts, sockets, and backing rings.
Operate welding banks and have some knowledge of welding machines such as
SYNCHROWAVE 250
and
POWCON ST-300
.
Troubleshoot TIG lines and welding equipment issues.
Journeyperson 2 (J2) - Pipe Welder
Basic understanding of weld joint designs.
Perform stick welding with a willingness to learn TIG welding.
Some experience with various metals is helpful but not required.
Ability to operate welding banks.
Journeyperson 1 (J1) - Pipe Welder
Perform stick welding on fillet and butt joints.
Willingness to learn advanced welding procedures.
Must be able to pass a
6-G carbon steel pipe welding test
.
Qualifications & Skills
Experience:
Extensive experience in pipe welding, with a strong background in both TIG and stick welding.
Technical Knowledge:
Familiarity with military and industry welding standards.
Equipment Proficiency:
Ability to operate welding machines and troubleshoot equipment issues.
Precision & Quality:
Ability to work with tight tolerances and perform high-quality welds on various metals.
Safety Compliance:
Knowledge of welding safety protocols and PPE usage.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights as required.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Exposure to welding fumes, heat, and various industrial work conditions.
Requires standing, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.
