Job Description
Minimum of 3 years of pipe welding experience.
Must have experience in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) also known as TIG welding, and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) also known as Stick Welding.
With surgical precision, the First-Class Pipe Welder seals the vital piping networks that supply our ships with various chemical, steam, ventilation, and heating and cooling systems. Our Pipe Welders are among the best in the world.
Pipe Welders are responsible for performing pipe welding procedures on Stainless Steel and Cooper-Nickle pipe using TIG welding & Stick Welding.
The shipyard environment is an around-the-clock manufacturing setting and involves working at different heights, confined spaces, different weather conditions as well as multiple shifts 24 hours a day. Welders may be required to work either day or night.
Types of metal materials with a variety of welding processes; the most basic are Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW/Stick welding) and Flux-Core Arc Welding (FCAW/wire welding). Must pass a military standard X-ray welding test on stainless steel and copper-nickel in the 6 G position (restricted). The pipe welding test is given in a restricted position (6G) on a 5" schedule 80 carbon steel pipe. GTAW (Tig) process used for root pass, 11018 electrode used for weld fill portion and cap.
