Your Role

We seek a dedicated individual who will safely work as part of a team performing start-up, testing, and commissioning of equipment for the water and wastewater industry. This is a non-exempt. Must be able to communicate well with groups or individuals to solve problems. Must be a self-starter. Able to prioritize work based on construction requirements and critical path. Work independently with oversite from Sr. Instrument Technicians and Engineers. Understands safety procedures of electrical equipment.

The Jr. Instrument Technician is responsible for inspection, calibration, documentation, troubleshooting and repair of electrical equipment, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI's) and plant instrumentation/analyzer systems within municipal and county facilities.

Instrumentation includes flow, temperature, pressure, and level transmitters, gauges, motor control circuits, VFDs, electronic control valves and actuators.
  • Process/environmental analyzers include liquid and gas analyzers
  • Possesses a commitment to Safety and Safe Work Practices. Works safely and follows all Safety Policies and complies with all site policies and procedures.
  • Assists with PLC and HMI programming changes, development, testing and commissioning.
  • Installs, calibrates, tests, and troubleshoots various types of instruments and analyzers contained within indication, control, and process safety systems and ensures the installation adheres to national codes and project specifications.
  • Operates handheld test equipment (including multi-meters, pressure calibrators, smart communicators, signal generator, thermocouple/RTD simulators, dead weight testers, meggers, etc.)
  • Research documentation from various sources for proper procedures to perform calibration, makes necessary adjustments, and documents all values and changes.
  • Interprets specifications, blueprints, loop drawings, and electrical schematics. Redline necessary updates & changes and works with engineering to implement these changes.
  • Identifies and uses a variety of hand and power tools in a safe manner.
  • Performs job tasks outside under varying weather conditions which may include ladder and stair climbing, confined spaces and work from heights using fall protection.
  • Communicates effectively at a technical level with Construction and Plant personnel.
  • Participate in computer based and face to face training program and complete required training.
  • Daily activities include climbing structures to access instrumentation.
  • Maintains housekeeping in work areas according to Company standards.
Qualifications
  • Education/experience as a journeyman in the instrument/electrical trade that has performed tasks directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Demonstrates a proficiency in use of appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment to calibrate, install, troubleshoot, repair, replace and test instrument loops, electrical circuits, and equipment.
  • Familiarity with PLC's, including: Allen-Bradley and Schneider
  • Familiarity with HMI Products, including: Rockwell Factory TalkView, Wonderware System Platform, GE iFix and Ignition
  • Ability to safely operate a variety of electronic and testing instruments.
  • Network interfacing of instruments utilizing communication software with laptop computer.
  • Able to lift to 50lb.
  • Ability to work while donned in a variety of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Ability to climb, bend, lift and perform a wide range of physical activities in all weather conditions.
  • Willing and able to work overtime and weekends as required to support plant startup, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Ability to work in a Team environment with construction and operations personnel.
  • Ability to work alone as well as function as a Team member.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and written.
  • Must be self-motivated with willing to acquire and utilize new and/or additional skills.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older and hold a valid driver's license.
  • Computing skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Potential for Travel 30-50%
Pay Range = $27 - $35 hour
