Heavy Equipment Operator (Excavator)
(Summary)
Position starting Dec 2 - Seeking qualified and dedicated individual to build a career while exceeding the highest quality and safety standards. Heavy Equipment Operators are assigned to a crew to install or replace welded piping facilities underground and above ground. Work includes physically demanding construction general labor while operating heavy equipment.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include: operate a variety of equipment once certified; promote and practice good safety at all times; verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in layout, lifting / staging of fabricated pipe, equipment and excavation safety; inspect work and maintain quality standards per contract documents; using a hand shovel to dig around existing utility structures to locate and prevent damage; load and unload equipment and materials; daily pre-shift vehicle and equipment inspections; keeping daily log; performing regular maintenance and cleaning on assigned vehicles and equipment.
(Skills / Qualifications)
Skills and Qualifications include: proficient use and operation of heavy equipment (Trackhoe excavator, Forklift, Loader, and Roller); work a regular 10 hour shift outside in various and sometimes extreme temperatures; withstand prolonged and repeated carrying, lifting or positioning of material up to 50 lbs; bend, lay, kneel occasionally; position/reach overhead occasionally; climb ladders, work from scaffolds or lifts to access work; appropriate PPE required including but not limited to vests, hard hats, steel toe work boots, safety glasses, hearing protection; ability to hear, comprehend and communicate specific directions or safety instructions in English to ensure the safety of all; ability to work with a heightened awareness within the “red zone” of heavy equipment; quick and accurate hand-eye coordination to work safely; skill to operate equipment in close proximity to workers and underground utilities; ability to interact with public, supervisors, and coworkers professionally at all times; distinguish safety colors with 20/20 eyesight using corrective lenses if necessary.
(Education and Experience)
Education and Experience include: minimum 5 years experience in operating heavy equipment in the installation of underground piping systems (up to 16” piping); specifically, Trackhoe Excavator, Forklift, Loader and Roller.
(Other – Post Hire)
Employment contingent on background check, driving record, and drug screening. Valid driver’s license with no more than 3 moving violations in a 3 year period and no major violation / DUIs. Must be able to qualify for secure access.
