Summary/Objective: Provide rigging and periodic weight testing certification services to include in-shop components and onboard weight handling systems. Provide shipboard equipment and component rigging services, including ships' force and assist work center requests.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Rigs, locates, loads/unloads materials and equipment on and off ship and in and out of yard.
  • Conveys instructions to crane operators and forklift drivers using hand signals, loudspeaker, or telephone.
  • Tests and installs rigging equipment, such as cargo booms, elevators, boat davits, booms, and portable davits.
  • Inspects rigging equipment for safe operation prior to use.
  • Set up tools and equipment at job site and puts equipment away when finished.
  • Conducts post installation inspection of rigging equipment and submits report for damaged equipment to Tool Room.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.
  • Fill out Job Safety Analysis (JSA) Forms for assigned projects.
  • Ability to supervise project personnel in Rigging Team Leadman's absence.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 7 years' experience performing rigging operations on Navy ships.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of all rigging equipment, ability to test shipboard and yard equipment.
  • Must be able to obtain DBIDS.
  • Ability to work at heights confined spaces, overhead structures, or beneath machinery and access/move around ships safely.
Work Environment: This job operates in a shipyard work environment.

Travel: This position does not require the ability to travel.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The physical demands for this position are light to moderate.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds of weight, frequently stop and/or bend.
  • Visual abilities required incudes close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception and color recognition.
  • Must be able to spend 70% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates.

  • Passing a drug test and physical examination
  • Eligibility to work in the US.
