$25.44 - $36.35/Hourly
Who We Are
Continental Maritime of San Diego, a Titan company, is a certified Master Ship Repair Contractor for the U.S. Navy. Our skilled professionals have performed hundreds of ship repairs for the Navy and Military Sealift Command. CMSD does repair on all types of major surface vessels including CVN, CG, and DDG, and all types of amphibious ships including LHD, LHA, LSD, LPD, and auxiliary ships. Our work also includes repairs and alterations to a wide range of Combatant, Hull, Mechanical and Electrical, and Habitability Systems.
Position Specifics
Continental Maritime of San Diego is currently seeking a Pipe Welder Journeyman to help support our operations. The Pipe Welder Journeyman is responsible for proper removal, and/or installation of various piping systems. This includes cutting, grinding, and prepping multiple sizes and material types of pipe. The Pipe Welder Journeyman must have the ability to read blueprints, diagrams, and sketches, and have an understanding of the different joint designs IAW with MIL-STD-22D, and basic knowledge of MIL-STD-777F, and NSTP-278. In addition, the Pipefitter must be able to obtain a Silver Braze certification, and have general knowledge of the hazards associated with opening tanks and voids, including the installation of proper blanks and plugs to obtain Gas Free status. The Pipefitter must also have the ability to accomplish all required testing (hydrostatic, operational, etc.) IAW shipboard procedures.
Minimum Requirements
The ability to read and understand basic work specs, drawings, and diagrams
Demonstrated knowledge of ship board piping systems
Understands ship board terminology utilizing MIL-SPEC and NAVSEA references
Demonstrated understanding of basic reading and mathematics is required for fit-up, lay-out, and fabrication of piping systems
Demonstrated ability to identify multiple types of fittings, and what they are used for
Demonstrated ability to identify different piping systems based off of abbreviations commonly used onboard the ship
Demonstrated understanding of TAC numbers used to identify locations throughout the ship
Maintains a silver braze qualifications for CuNi (copper-nickel) piping systems onboard ships
Maintains fire-watch qualification
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required
Must be able to work any shift
The ability to obtain a DBIDS credential is required
Physical Requirements
Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions. Shop, shipboard, warehouse, industrial environment
May be exposed to fumes and irritants including welding/burning fumes, paints, oils, greases and various cleaning solutions and solvents, noise, high heat and humidity hazards while wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Frequently moves throughout the shipyard
Works at heights and in confined spaces
Must be able to ascend/descend stairs/ladders/ramps, aboard ships in shipyards under industrial conditions and in confined spaces
Must be able to move heavy equipment and boxes, weighing up to 40 pounds
May be exposed to rapid changes in microclimates, industrial processes, and other environmental factors while collecting data, providing direction, and observing performance of task teams
