Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator
Start Date: Immediately
Salary Range: $36.00-$40.00/an hour
Position Overview: Heavy Equipment operators are responsible for a variety of material-moving equipment daily according to schedule and instructions from Heavy Equipment Coordinator, choosing and setting up the right crane or lift truck for the safe hoisting of equipment and material.
Essential Functions:
Inspect machines and equipment daily, perform routine maintenance procedures and minor repairs as required and initiate additional repair requests from mechanics when necessary.
Ensure equipment lift accessories are in good working condition.
Maintain material moving equipment in good working condition.
Inspect cables for wear and install or replace cables, as needed under Fleet Mechanic supervision.
Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload.
Inspect bundle packaging for conformance to regulations or customer requirements and remove and batch packaging tickets.
Direct helpers engaged in placing blocking or outrigging under cranes.
Direct truck drivers backing vehicles into loading bays and cover, uncover, or secure loads for delivery.
Ensure cargo is properly secured prior to transporting.
Signal others to coordinate vehicle movement.
Provide additional support to other crane operators as necessary, including working overtime if necessary to complete tasks.
Control cranes, lifts and other equipment using standard operating procedures to ensure effective transportation of materials and safety for all personnel on site.
Maintain visual and radio contact with ground operators according to best practices and site safety regulations and respond to questions and instructions clearly and quickly.
Maintain and update DOT driver log information daily.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
Skill necessary to maneuver large mobile equipment within moving traffic or limited access areas.
Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License.
Obtain and maintain required certification for equipment assigned to operate.
The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion.
The ability to judge which of several objects is closer or farther away from you, or to judge the distance between you and an object.
The ability to see details at a distance.
The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
The ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.
The ability to know your location in relation to the environment or to know where other objects are in relation to you.
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 60% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under wide temperature variations and in hazardous conditions.

Education and Experience:
1-2 years of Heavy Equipment experience required
High School Diploma or GED
NCCCO Certification with TLL, TSS designations
OSHA-10 Certification (or be willing to obtain pre-employment)
Commercial Driver's License - Class A
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
Pass initial drug test and participate in random drug test program
Willing to travel
Ability to perform elevated work (work on rooftops, heights)
Frequently lift and carry 50lbs or greater
Frequent bending, kneeling, walking
Outdoor environment in all types of weather (8+ hours per day)
Overtime and weekend work
Work Location: In person
Ability to Relocate: Kansas City, MO 64108: Relocate before starting work (Required)
