Industrial Journeyman Electrician Helper – Data Center Construction

Job Summary:

As an Industrial Journeyman Electrician, you will play a critical role in the construction of a state-of-the-art data center. You will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical systems that provide reliable power distribution, backup systems, and essential infrastructure to ensure the data center operates efficiently and safely. Your work will involve heavy collaboration with other trades and professionals, ensuring compliance with all electrical codes and standards.

Responsibilities:

Electrical System Installation:

• Install and wire electrical distribution panels, transformers, and substations for the facility.
• Set up and install Power Distribution Units (PDUs) for efficient power delivery to server racks and other critical systems.
• Install heavy-duty electrical systems including wiring, conduit, and switches to support high-power demands of data center equipment.

Cable Management

• Electrical Wiring: Install heavy-gauge electrical cabling throughout the facility to provide power to different systems, including air conditioning units, lighting, security systems, and the server racks.
• Data Cables and Conduits: Work closely with data network teams to install power to network equipment, such as routers and switches, and ensure all cabling is properly routed through conduits.
• Cable Tray Systems: Set up cable tray systems that hold and organize power cables, communication lines, and other wires throughout the building.

Testing and Commissioning:

• Conduct thorough electrical system testing to ensure proper operation, including voltage, load, and backup power systems.
• Troubleshoot electrical issues and make necessary repairs to ensure systems meet safety and operational standards.

Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as an industrial electrician, with a focus on complex electrical systems.
• Experience with data center construction and knowledge of specialized electrical needs for such facilities.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and construction plans.
• Familiarity with electrical codes (NEC) and safety standards.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs or more).
• Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including climbing ladders, working at heights, and in confined spaces.
• Ability to work long hours or in shifts, as needed, to meet construction timelines.
• The position will be based on a construction site for the duration of the data center build.
