Nature of Work
The Transportation Worker 1 Equipment Operator will report to the Wyoming County Headquarters. Under general supervision, will be performing entry level functions, working in the construction and maintenance of highways. Duties include:Driving a light truck or vehicle during regular operation as well as during snow removal and ice control (SRIC). Operating various equipment such as a fork truck, end loader, skid steer, rollers, utility tractor, brush chipper, as well as various hand tools. May fill in answering telephone and radio calls during SRIC. May be responsible for transporting materials or fuel to equipment. Providing traffic control by flagging on job sites. Selected applicants may be exposed to hazardous working conditions and inclement weather.Performs other related duties as required.

The selected applicant will be placed in a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program. Selected applicant will be required, within 6 months of employment to obtain commercial driver's license (CDL). Progress through the apprenticeship program as well as the opportunity for advancement to a higher classification is dependent upon hours completed, proficiency in work, training completed, as well as obtaining and maintaining a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

• In the area of assignment of Equipment Operator, a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required within six (6) months of employment.
Pay Grade 10H
Hourly Rate: $15.4913

Typical Duties and Responsibilities
Transportation Worker 1 - Equipment Operator
  • Operate a light truck or vehicle.
  • Operate a fork truck to load and unload trucks.
  • May operate Endloader, Skid Steer, Rollers, Utility Tractor, and Bruch Chipper.
  • Control brush and vegetation using hand tools and other equipment.
  • Plow snow using a light truck.
  • Perform minor maintenance on fleet of equipment and vehicles.
  • Transport fuel to equipment.
  • Answer telephone and radio calls during snow removal and ice control.
  • Flags traffic at construction sites.
  • Travel may be required; therefore, a valid driver's license is required.
  • a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required within six (6) months of employment.
Required Skills and Knowledge
• Knowledge of general safety procedures.
• Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and other motor driven equipment.
• Knowledge of the operation of motor driven equipment.
• Skill in the use of tools and equipment used in the repair of motor driven equipment Ability to diagnose minor mechanical problems and determine appropriate procedures for repair.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to learn from example and work cooperatively with others.
• Ability to maintain routine records (timecards, repair work orders).
