Level I:$21.54 - $28.03 Hourly
Level II: $23.70 - $30.82 Hourly
Anticipated Hiring Ranges:
Level I: $21.54 - $24.78 Hourly
Level II: $23.70 - $27.26 Hourly

Job Summary:
The City of Greeley is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic I - II to join the Transmission and Distribution division in the Water & Sewer Department. The Maintenance Mechanic will report to the Transmission and Distribution Maintenance Team Supervisor and will be responsible for maintaining the proper operation of all equipment and buried and above ground assets directly and in-directly associated with valves and Fire Hydrants needed to operate the potable water system, The successful incumbent will provide daily preventative, predictive, and repair maintenance tasks on a variety of Fire Hydrants, PRV vaults, PRV assemblies, hydraulic valve turning equipment, air vacs, inspection of vaults, inspection of safety equipment, entering confined spaces. This position will also participate in Utility Locating, Damage Prevention and Proactive Leak detection as needed. They will work with pumps, blowers, compressors, and generators. The incumbent works in the proximity of electrical switchgears and controls.
Minimum Qualifications:
All levels:
Valid unrestricted driver's license.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Current Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.
Required to participate in a rotating on call schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
Must be able to respond on-site within 45 minutes for after-hours emergencies.
Mechanic I:
Six (6) months to 2 years of experience operating a small water system.
Basic skills using hand and power tools.
Basic knowledge of construction prints, as-built drawings, and GIS mapping.
Basic knowledge of confined space entry safety processes.
Basic knowledge of small electrical crane operation.
Basic knowledge of Operation and Maintenance of Fire Hydrants
Current Colorado Water Professional Distribution I certification or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.
Mechanic II:
Two (2) to three (3) years of experience operating a small water system.
One (1) to two (2) years of SCADA experience required.
Demonstrated experience using hand, power tools, and multimeters.
Demonstrated knowledge of equipment such as Fire hydrants, valves, PRV's, bearings, seals, packing, belts, and how they are used.
Moderate knowledge of construction prints, as-builts, and GIS mapping.
Current Colorado Water Professional Distribution 2 certification or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.
OR,
A combination of related experience, education, certifications, or licensure that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job may be considered by the hiring authority.
Preferred:
Mechanic I:
Six (6) months to one (1) year of SCADA experience preferred.
Six (6) months or more of experience with Utility Locating and 811 law preferred.
Six (6) months or more of experience with proactive leak detection preferred.
Mechanic II:
Vocational or technical training in mechanical/electrical system preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of equipment such as bearings, seals, packing, belts, valve types, and PRVs, etc.
Ability to use a variety of hand and electric powered tools.
Ability to follow safe work practices.
Ability to read and comprehend Operations & Maintenance (O&M) manuals, and mechanical and electrical drawings.
Ability to work with assistance if needed after receiving instructions.
Knowledge of the business and organizational structure of Colorado municipalities
Collaboration skills, including the ability to work with others from different areas and backgrounds to reach a common goal

Essential Functions:
Produces written records with clearly organized information.
Works safely around an industrial environment with 480-volt power and rotating equipment.
Performs housekeeping duties, or other tasks and responsibilities, as may be assigned.
Maintains the proper operation of all equipment and buried assets directly and in-directly associated with valves needed to operate the potable water system
Provides daily preventative, predictive, and repair maintenance tasks on a variety of PRV vaults, PRV assemblies, hydraulic valve turning equipment, air vacs.
Performs inspections of vaults.
Performs inspections of safety equipment; enters confined spaces.
Works with pumps, blowers, compressors, generators, air, and gas regulating devices, and gearboxes.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Travel: May be required to travel up to 10% of the time.

Employee is subject to extreme cold/hot with temperatures below 32 degrees or above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour; consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions such as wind and humidity.
Employee subject to driving City vehicle in all weather conditions.
Employee may be asked to drive personal vehicle for business purposes.
Employee is subject to typical noise pollution--machinery/equipment: There may be sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout above the ambient noise level to be heard.
Employee is subject to vibration and exposure to oscillating movements of the body.
Employee is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles/traffic, electrical current, work on scaffolding/high places, vaults, rough terrain, unsanitary, slippery surfaces with exposure to high heat and/or chemicals.
Employee is subject to atmospheric conditions: such as conditions affecting the respiratory system: airborne particles/pathogens, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
Employee may be required to wear protective clothing or gear.
Employee is subject to working alone and/or with groups and/or attending meetings.
Employee spends extended periods of time at fixed workstation.
Employee may be required to conduct business in alternate locations within City buildings or field sites, sometimes in formal settings.
Employee may be required to work early mornings, overtime, holidays, evenings, shifts, or weekends.
Employee may have frequent interruptions; be required to multi-task; and have inflexible deadlines.
Frequent contact with the public--in person, via email/telephone, sometimes facing adverse or confrontational situations. Includes internal/external customers.
Moderate to considerable hazards reflect a frequent exposure to conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury; i.e., work is performed in the traffic right-of-way, on different construction sites, and/or with heavy and moving equipment, noise, high-volume traffic, or all of the above in all weather conditions; welding/shoring is performed in confined spaces as well as in excavations and trenches; field activities take place on un-level, rocky, and slippery surfaces.
Physical Requirements
Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data/figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading of printed materials; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices--graphs and gauges; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
Employee is required to have visual acuity for close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Employee is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machinery where the job is at or within arm's reach and to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
Employee is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures for inspection purposes.
Moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions, frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs.) and use of medium weight tools; employee will perform manual labor, such as lifting manhole covers and grates weighing up to 100 lbs.; walking on uneven ground or river and ditch banks retrieving water samples or climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach while operating in the field or storm system; entering/exiting manholes or vaults; walking near or across rivers and ditches; working in all weather conditions at times of excessive temperatures of heat and extreme cold, working in or near moving traffic with appropriate traffic control set up.
