Pay Range:
$16.00 - $19.00 (Leads $20.00 - $21.00)
Schedule:
Full and part-time positions available with flexible schedules offered Monday - Friday between 7:00 am and 5:30 pm. Seasonal employment typically runs from March through October. Overtime opportunities are available for weekends, holidays, and city events.
SUMMARY
Under immediate supervision, to perform semi-skilled labor in construction, maintenance, and related service activities in the Parks Division.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
None.
Leads exercise technical and functional supervision of lower-level laborers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Mows, waters, and maintains lawns and other landscapes.
Pruning, weeding, spraying, tree planting, or removal of trees.
Operates simple hand and power tools; operates simple equipment in moving materials.
Assists with minor construction projects which may include work in painting, concrete, carpentry and fence repair.
Assists with minor repairs to sprinkling system.
Performs other service maintenance duties as assigned.
Cleaning of public restrooms, park pavilions, park properties, and emptying of trash cans.
Leads supervise seasonal staff and perform as part of a crew.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Must be at least 16 years of age at the time of employment.
SEASONAL PARKS WORKER
Experience:
No experience required.
SEASONAL PARKS LEAD
Experience:
Six months experience in performing basic maintenance or related duties.
Certifications/Licenses:
Valid Utah Driver's License
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Methods, techniques, and tools used in the construction and maintenance of parks, landscaped areas, and related facilities.
Basic park maintenance and general construction tools and equipment.
Safe driving principles and practices.
Skill with:
Operating a variety of mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner.
Performing heavy manual labor for extended periods of time in all types of weather.
Operating a motor vehicle safely.
Learning City policies, procedures and codes related to parks maintenance.
Ability to:
Perform park maintenance, landscaping, reconstruction, and repair work.
Perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
Understand and follow verbal and written directions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to sit, stand, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, crawl, twist, climb, and lift 50 lbs.; exposure to inclement weather, noise, outdoors, confining workspace, chemicals, dust, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations. Ability to stand, walk or sit uncomfortably for extended periods.
